2016 - 2017 Operating Plan Public Statement

November 23, 2015
Each year, Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (Ontario Shores) completes an Operating Plan for the year ahead. The Operating Plan outlines the changes the organization will make to support our Strategic Plan, create efficiencies and maintain a balanced budget. As part of the planning process, we held focus groups with staff and conducted a thorough review of each portfolio.

This year, the 2016 – 2017 Operating Plan will consist of the following changes:
  • After a careful review of usage, safety precautions and costs associated with maintenance, we have decided to close the swimming pool, effective March 31, 2016. Our patients will be able to participate in a variety of other therapeutic recreation activities we provide.
  • Ontario Shores has two cafeterias. The hours of the main Lakeview Cafeteria will remained unchanged, open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We are reducing the hours of the smaller café to 11:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • After a review of the current work associated with the clerk position, we are eliminating the clerk classification and adding 9 secretary positions to support the various clinical programs and services across the hospital.

Adjustments to our staffing complement are necessary to support these changes. As a result 21 staff will receive layoff notices. Staff in these impacted positions will have the opportunity to pursue various options, including vacancies, transfers, early retirement and voluntary exits.

In addition, Ontario Shores will be offering career counselling, job coaching and resume writing services to help staff impacted by these changes. Support will also be available through the Employee Assistance Program, Human Resources, Occupational Health and Wellness, and the management team.

Ontario Shores is a community and we will work together to support each other during this time of transition. We remain committed to supporting our staff and providing exemplary mental health care for our patients in an environment that is therapeutic, safe and recovery-focused.
