TD Gift Helps Green Ontario Shores

May 31, 2013
(Whitby, ON) May 31, 2013 – Environmental sustainability is not just an important corporate goal at Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (Ontario Shores), but a living, breathing way to reduce our environmental footprint as a community citizen. To support Ontario Shores in reaching this goal, TD has given a gift of $250,000 to Ontario Shores Foundation for Mental Health (Ontario Shores Foundation).

TD’s investment will enable Ontario Shores to meet its environmental goals and provide financial savings, which will have a direct and positive effect on patient care. TD’s gift to Ontario Shores will be invested in future technologies that enhance energy, water, waste and emissions reduction efforts. A portion of the funds will be directed to the new Green Free Cooling Initiative at Ontario Shores.

“TD’s gift will allow us to implement some of our larger environmental plans and recognize some of the immediate goals in energy efficiency within the facility,” says Karim Mamdani, President and CEO, Ontario Shores. “The community responsibility TD has shown will enable us to meet these goals quickly and more efficiently than we imagined.”

The Honourable Jim Flaherty, MP, Whitby-Oshawa, Minister of Finance and Minister Responsible for the GTA attended the event. Minister Flaherty spoke on the role green initiatives have in local communities and the benefits TD’s gift will have to Ontario Shores.

“I want to congratulate the TD Bank Group and Ontario Shores for their leadership and commitment to enhance the health and well-being of our community,” says Minister Flaherty. “TD’s investment today will result in the dual benefit of helping to reach Ontario Shores’ goal of protecting and preserving the environment and redirecting financial savings to patient care. This is tremendous and forward looking.”

“Ontario Shores Foundation is honoured to receive such a generous gift from TD Bank Group,” says Neil Hannam, Executive Director of Ontario Shores Foundation. “It is through collaboration with innovative organizations such as TD that we can enhance the health and well-being of our communities.”

“Our commitment to reducing the environmental footprint extends to our employees, our customers and our communities,” says Paul Clark, President and CEO TD Auto Finance Canada and Chair of TD’s People with Disabilities Committee. “This gift is an investment in Ontario Shores and its sustainability initiatives as well as the community. The savings generated through this gift will have a direct and positive impact on quality of care for those facing mental health challenges.”
