Ontario Shores Signs Agreement with Dell Services to Host Hospital Data Centre

July 28, 2010

Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (Ontario Shores) announced today that Dell Services will host the hospital’s data centre with the official move taking place July 30 to August 1. The agreement makes Ontario Shores the first MSite (remote MEDITECH hosting) customer for Dell Services in Canada.

“Dell Services will provide the required support for our clinical and business information systems as we move to a fully integrated electronic health record system this fall,” explained Karim Mamdani, Chief Operating Officer, Ontario Shores.

On October 5, 2010, Ontario Shores will go-live with MEDITECH 6.0 advanced clinical applications, providing the 325-bed mental health facility with computerized clinical documentation, order entry, clinical decision support and bedside medication verification.

“Before we go-live with MEDITECH 6.0 advanced clinical systems applications, we want to ensure that our infrastructure is robust and can run without service interruptions. The data centre with Dell Services will provide IT infrastructure and redundancy to support patient-critical clinical systems,” Mamdani said.

Ontario Shores’ current data centres do not have adequate cooling or uninterrupted power supply, which can be a risk once the electronic health record system is fully implemented.

The decision to partner with Dell Services was made to ensure disaster recovery and redundancy is in place so that the electronic information is always available and data is never lost. “It further ensures the greatest reliability for the critical systems we rely on to provide excellent and safe care to our patients,” Mamdani said.

“Ontario Shores understands that serving patients with leading-edge clinical technology requires the foundation of a solid, reliable infrastructure,” said Berk Smith, president, Dell Services Healthcare. “We are pleased that they have become our first Canadian customer to utilize MSite, a remote hosting solution that will enable them to utilize advanced clinical solutions without having to make costly data center updates.”
