Outdoor Therapautic Recreation Area

In our ongoing effort to support patient recovery and our community, the Outdoor Therapeutic Recreation Area (OTRA) provides opportunities for patients to participate in outdoor recovery-based activities in an accessible space. Supporting a number of patient-focused initiatives, the OTRA is designed to support:

  • Our collaborative recovery model and community integration
  • Clean air and smoking cessation efforts
  • Central Recreation
  • The Metabolic and Weight Management Clinic
  • Stigma reducing initiatives

Located on the east side of hospital grounds, south of the Gordon Street entrance, the fully accessible area includes a Victorian Gazebo, half multi-use court for basketball, walking labyrinth (maze) for inspiration or meditation and a connecting paved pathway from the Waterfront Trail to Building 1.

Open to the public, this area will be included in the security ground patrols, and will be supervised by staff members during scheduled patient activities.

Sports equipment for the half court will be available for sign out by patients and staff through Central Recreation. While the court is also open to staff and public use, patient-structured activities during scheduled times will be given first priority.
