Adolescents
Adolescents with the Oshawa Generals
The onset of most mental illnesses occur during adolescence or young adulthood and can interfere with youth as they develop independent living skills and interpersonal relationships. Mental illness can also affect a youth’s family life, and educational, recreational and vocational activities. Therefore, early diagnosis and treatment of mental illness is essential in building a solid foundation for a bright future. Ontario Shores has recently expanded its Adolescent Program to provide youth, 12 to 17, with enhanced care and programming based on their specialized needs. Patients work in partnership with staff to learn how to manage their illness, improve their coping skills and develop the necessary tools to successfully return to the community at an optimal level of well-being. All services are provided in a caring and supportive environment that fosters independence, confidence and self-esteem.

Youth are referred through Durham Region Central Intake at 1.888.454.6275 or Ontario Shores Central Intake. All referrals are welcome, including those outside Ontario Shores’ primary service area. Ontario Shores also provides access to a Virtual Emergency Room for patients living in distant areas.
