Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (Ontario Shores) is pleased to welcome four new psychiatrists to the Adolescent and Forensic Programs. They bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and innovation to the interprofessional teams throughout the hospital.
“We are excited to welcome these new psychiatrists and physicians to the Ontario Shores team,” says Dr. Ian Dawe, Physician-in-Chief, Ontario Shores. “They bring a range of expertise and will make valuable contributions to our patients’ recovery and enhance the mental health care programs and services we provide.”
Dr. Marc Fadel is the new Medical Director of Adolescent Services. In this role, he will continue to strengthen the assessment, stabilization and treatment services provided in Adolescent Services. He is a graduate from the University of Toronto and has a strong background in research. Dr. Fadel is a guest lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and is a volunteer board member on the Sunshine “Dreams for Kids” Foundation of Canada.
“I am happy to be part of Ontario Shores and work with a great team of interprofessional staff,” says Dr. Fadel. “I look forward to working together with patients, families, staff and stakeholders to support the care needs of our young patients.”
Dr. Fadel is joined by Dr. Graciela Kriegel-Perez, a recent graduate from McMaster University, with a background in child and adolescent psychiatry, research and education. She is currently participating in a research pilot study on the prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder in an inpatient population.
Dr. Kira Payne and Dr. Elizabeth Coleman are two new additions to the Forensic Program at Ontario Shores. Dr. Payne is a recent graduate from the University of Toronto, Department of Psychiatry. She has received awards from the University of Toronto for her psychotherapy and grand rounds presentations and has co-facilitated post-graduate seminars.
Dr. Coleman has been working in forensic mental health care for the past five years in Britain. She has worked in both medium and high forensic settings and brings clinical, management and teaching experience to the role.
Ontario Shores is also pleased to welcome a team of duty doctors. These physicians provide coverage on evenings and weekends and gain valuable experience in psychiatry. They are part of the Restricted Registration Pilot program that is offered by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Ontario Shores is the only facility in Ontario that is actively engaging psychiatry residents in their final years of training to provide medical services.
